I am in the morbid habit of checking the U.S. total cases number first thing in the morning. I turn off the alarm on my phone, load the NY Times’ map, and look for the total number. Then I scroll down to the bar graph of new daily cases, as if I don’t already know that the virus is continuing its growth curve upward. Last week I even started my own spreadsheet, because I couldn’t find a graph anywhere that would both let me see the daily
